                     Урок – игра в 6 классе «Знаешь ли ты англоязычную культуру»

                               Do you know English culture?

Цели:

Обучающая: улучшение произносительных навыков, активизация лексических навыков, развитие умений и навыков говорения.

Воспитательная: воспитывать культуру общения, дух товарищества.

Развивающая: развивать память, внимание, мышление, догадку.

Социокультурная: расширение кругозора, знаний об иноязычной культуре.

                                                 Stages:

  1. Introduction.

Hello, children. How are you feeling? I hope everything is all right. Do you like to play? Very well.  Welcome to the game “Do you know English culture?” We’ll find out how well you know the culture of the language you learn. There are two teams which take part in the game. Who is the captain of the first team? Will you introduce yourself? How is your team called?  Ask the members of your team to introduce themselves. Who is the captain of the second team? Will you introduce yourself? How is your team called?  Ask the members of your team to introduce themselves.

II.          The Game.

  1. Thank you for introducing yourselves. Let me introduce our respectable judges. Now we are ready to start the game. I wish you much success and remember that “It doesn’t matter whether you win or loose that matters how you play the game. The game has the following rounds:

Phonetics

Blitz-game

Proverbs

Captains

Guides

 

We start.

  1. The fist round is the phonetic round.  I need two participants from each team. Captains, will you appoint the participants. Come here. Let’s see what team will begin the game.

 One, two, three, four, five,

I’m flying in the sky,

I’m a toy airplane,

My name starts with “A”.

                You must read the transcriptions of the words. You can earn 1 point for your team if you read the transcription correctly.

The task for you: London, Westminster, Queen, Tower, Square.

        The task for the second team: Palace, Street, Hyde, Buckingham, Bridge.

        Dear judges, will you count the points and announce the score? Thank you.

  • The first team is the leader now.
  • The score is equal.
  • Don’t be upset. You may change the situation next round.
  1. The next round is blitz. I need three participants from each team. You should answer the questions one by one. If somebody can’t answer the question, the right to answer the question goes to another person. … you will begin the round:
  • What is the full name of Great Britain? (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)
  • What countries does the UK consist of? (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland)
  • What is London home of English queen? (Buckingham Palace)
  • What is the name of ruling queen?  (Elizabeth II)
  • What is the address of prime-minister of Great Britain? (Downing St.10)
  •  Where can we see the black ravens? (On the Tower of London)
  • Who feeds the ravens on the Tower of London? (The Master of Ravens)
  • What famous detective lived on Baker Street? (Sherlock Homes)

        Dear judges, will you count the points for the blitz?

  • The next round is connected with proverbs. Proverbs are the rich layer of any language. They make it more beautiful and unique. You must finish the proverbs:
  1. It rains (cats and dogs)
  2. We shall see (what we shall see)
  3. Many men (many mind)
  4. English home is (his castle)
  5. Business (before pleasure)
  6. No pains (no gains)
  7. First come (first saved)
  8. All is well (that ends well)
  9. Two heads (are better than one)
  10. Every dog is (a lion at home)

Dear judges, will you count the points for the round?

  • The first team is the leader now.

  1. The next round is for captains. Will you come here? Do you know famous people of Great Britain? We shall see what we shall see? You must guess the famous person asking me the questions. You can earn one point for your team for each right question and three points if you guess the person. Let’s start. Ask me questions. I’ll give you the prompting. A person is a man.
  • Is he alive? (No, he isn’t)
  • When did he live? (In the nineteenth century)
  • Was he a writer (a scientist, an actor, a politician)? (He was a scientist)
  • When did he die? (He died in 1882)
  • Where was he buried? (In Westminster Abbey)

                It is Charles Darwin. Listen to the story: He was a well-known scientist. He lived at the beginning of the 19th century. After three years of study at Cambridge University he made a voyage round the world. He studied all parts of the world. Little by little he built up his famous theory. It was called the Theory of Evolution. He died in 1882 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.

  1. And the last round. It is the competition of guides. Captains, who are the guides in you teams? I see. Will you come here? I see. Describe the sight of London. You may earn from 3 to 5 points for your team.
  1. It is Westminster Abbey. It is very old. It is beautiful. The coronation of English Kings and Queens takes place here. Many famous people buried in Westminster Abbey. They are Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Charles Chaplin and others.  If you are in London take a chance to visit it.
  2. It is the Tower of London. It was a prison in the past. Now it is a museum. Black ravens live here. There is a master of ravens who must feed and care about ravens as Londoners think if the ravens fly away the Tower of London will fall. Don’t miss the chance to visit it.
